Yeovil Celebrates labeled as a great success
This Sunday’s (24th June) inaugural Yeovil Celebrates event has been hailed as a great success by its organisers, the Rotary Club of Yeovil.
With the town centre closed to traffic, 1000s of people flocked to Yeovil to see the myriad of attractions on offer. The all-day entertainment on the main stage in the Quedam and other performers in Middle Street and the Borough proved to be a hit, with Almost Elton, Ben Langley and a variety of acts providing a ray of sunshine between the showers.
One of the most popular elements of the event was the Farmer’s Market, which saw a constant stream of visitors throughout the day. The many and varied craft and charity stalls also enjoyed much attention from the town’s visitors. Added to this shopkeepers reported excellent trade, whilst catering outlets were also kept busy.
Besides bringing the community together for a day of celebration, an important part of the event was the launch of the Yeovil Young Achievers Trust, which has been set up to raise funds and help encourage the development and aspiration of youth in the Yeovil area.
The trust was launched by Mary Bramwell, President of the Rotary Club of Yeovil, to an audience of local business people and key figures from the town. Also attending the launch was David Laws MP, who commented that he is passionate about supporting youth in the community and it is a subject which features high on his agenda.
Although figures are not yet finalised, the Yeovil Rotary Club hopes that the sums raised by Yeovil Celebrates will be enough to kick-start the trust fund.
The Club is delighted that the event achieved what it was designed to do - and that was to provide the Yeovil Young Achieves Trust with a high-profile launch and bring the people of Yeovil and its surrounding areas together for a day of fun and entertainment in the town which is at the heart of the community.

Yeovil gets ready to celebrate!
This Sunday Yeovil town centre will come alive with the staging of the inaugural Yeovil Celebrates! Entertainers, musicians, singers, dancers, displays, craft stalls, trade stands and much more, all coming together to make this a very special day for the town, where everyone is invited and admission is free!
Organised by the Rotary Club of Yeovil, the event sees the launch of the Yeovil Young Achievers Trust, which is being formed to raise funds and help encourage the development of youth within our community.
“It will provide young people with an opportunity in life they might otherwise not be able to realise”, says President of Yeovil Rotary Club Mary Bramwell. “The Trust will assess the most deserving of candidates with the view of awarding a grant which will be used to support their personal development, be it in business, sport, citizenship or the arts.”
The focus of the event will be the main stage, which because of the number of acts in store, is now bigger than planned. This has meant moving it to an area in the lower part of the Quedam shopping centre, rather than locating it in the Borough where it was originally intended to be.
Performing on the stage will be a variety of acts including: Almost Elton, Ben Langley, the Stagemakers School Of Performance, Yeovil Show Company Singers, Didgeridoo Crew, Lydia Faith, DJ E.R.S, Yetminster Irish Dancers – plus many more. Taking care of proceedings and hosting the show will be Ivel FM’s morning DJ Steve Carpenter (see timetable attached).
Also growing in size and stature is the event’s Farmer’s Market located in Lower Middle Street, which now sees over 30 stalls selling a wide range of local produce.
So with all this in store, it’s an event not to be missed and a chance to celebrate our great town of Yeovil!

Elton’s coming to celebrate Yeovil…well almost!
Crowds at the forthcoming Yeovil Celebrates event, being held in the town centre on Sunday 24th June, are in for a real treat as they will be getting a glimpse of a brand new show that will not be officially launched until later this year.
The show “Almost Elton” is a tribute to rock legend Elton John and its producers have agreed a one-hour performance at Yeovil Celebrates, before it tours a range of top venues all over the UK. Already attracting massive interest, the show covers many of Sir Elton John’s hits and features some of the familiar flamboyant costumes and visual images.
The action on the main stage starts at 11.00am, with Almost Elton’s appearance scheduled for 2.00pm. Ivel FM’s Steve Carpenter will be hosting the proceedings and introducing a variety of live entertainers including: Yeovil’s pantomime favourite Ben Langley, with other acts including the Stagemakers School Of Performance, Yeovil Show Company Singers, Didgeridoo Crew, Lydia Faith, DJ E.R.S, Yetminster Irish Dancers – plus many more.
All these performances will take place amidst a myriad of craft and market stalls, trade and charity displays, art exhibitions, children’s entertainment and a host of other attractions, all of which make up Yeovil Celebrates.
Organised by the Rotary Club of Yeovil, the event will herald the launch of the Yeovil Young Achievers Trust, to which proceeds will be donated.
Admittance to Yeovil Celebrates is free – and organisers extend an invitation to everyone to come and join the fun!

Yeovil Celebrates shaping up to be a very special day
Plans for the forthcoming Yeovil Celebrates event on Sunday 24th June are now being finalised, with a host of attractions, displays, market stalls and entertainment destined to make it a very special occasion indeed.
The event will encompass almost the whole of the town centre, stretching from St John’s Church and the Borough, through Middle Street and the Quedam to the Triangle and continuing into Lower Middle Street. Shops and other establishments which trade on Sunday will continue to be open for business as usual – in fact most are joining in the fun!
One of the major focal points during the event will be the main stage located in the Borough. This will feature a variety of acts including performances by Ben Langley, who will be appearing at various times during the day. The Yeovil Show Company will be providing an eclectic mix of entertainment: actors, musicians, singers and dancers all part of the show.
Adding to the on-stage activity will be Yeovil’s Ivel FM, with morning DJ Steve Carpenter looking after proceedings and presenting the show from 11.00 am.
Entertainment in other areas of the town includes Irish dancers, a variety of bands, street performers, musicians and other attractions, such as a dog handling display. There’s also plenty for the kids to do, with side-shows, rides and games guaranteed to keep them amused.
The Triangle and Vicarage Street play host to the Children’s entertainment, with schools from around the district joining in the fun and putting on a variety of displays, from sports activities to an art exhibition.
Making up a significant part of the event will be the markets, with both the traditional town traders and a top quality farmers market taking up position in Lower Middle Street. Added to this will be the many and varied craft stalls, which will be located in Upper Middle Street and the Quedam. This area will also feature a number of trade and charity stands, plus displays by local organizations and businesses and the Orchard FM roadshow.
Leading up to the event will be a Folk Concert taking place in Yeovil Baptist Church on Friday 8th June and a concert performed by Wessex Strings in St. John’s Church on 23rd June – the evening before the big day!
